The re-strengthening and structural upgrade of the Old Government Building in Cathedral Square involved extensive seismic strengthening; new skin walls, floor diaphragms, and construction of two new four storey reinforced concrete shear blocks. The Old Government Building is a signature heritage building for Christchurch and its successful redevelopment into serviced apartments is to the credit of the designers and builders alike.
The separate Randolph Apartments Fit-out contract involved construction of 54 apartments, 2 penthouses, a retail arcade, swimming pool and fitness centre. Fit-out included refurbishment of major architectural heritage components including fibrous plaster cornices, ornate timber joinery and woodwork -all to standards set by tradesmen at the turn of the century.
